What's new with TFWA

We have different personalities with our nationalities...

It is so unique to have the ability, to meet and work with so many different nationalities.  Each having their own system, habits, superstitions, foods and learned ways.

It takes much heart for a foreign worker to leave everything behind, in hopes of making a better life for their family working abroad and sending the money home.

For some, it's a normal way of life. For some of us, this is easy.  For others, it is devastating.

In Canada, our family members alike also travel abroad for higher paying jobs and better opportunities while their families wait at home, missing their love ones, hoping they are safe.

Canadians travel to the arab countries within the oil and gas industries, to truckers across Canada traveling from province to province and out of country locations for months at a time to deliver products.  Out of town, country and overseas jobs are apparent in todays world and mandatory for survival within our strong and ever growing economy.

What makes a job unique, are the people!  The work place, where ever that may be, become a second home to the worker.  For some, they work so well with others.  Everyone are friends.  For others, they have a hard time grasping diverse traditional ways and become very shy and introverted.

Working with all types of personalities and nationalities is what makes our universe so unique.

The TFWA of Canada has experienced so many diverse nationalities and has learned to appreciate and understand that we are all after the same thing, quality of life.  No matter how different, we all stand on one common ground.  Surviving for ourselves, our families, friends and our loved ones.

We come from all places...

So many different beautiful things to see. Traveling has become an envious unaffordable venture for some of us and for others, frequent flyer points are at their all time highest.

The TFWA of Canada has always made it a point to ask our members and foreigners alike, why Canada?   Our earth holds some of the most beautiful landscapes, breath taking sceneries, warm ocean waters and warm sun. Yet, everyone that comes through our doors express that none of that is important to them. Canada is the dream land. How reverse can things be?

Canadians pay thousands of dollars on vacations entailing the warmth of the sun, beaches, palm trees with that ocean breeze that travels through your hair as you take that breath taking picture of a landscape so colorful and unforgettable.  Just to remind you of where you once stood at your last vacation’s center point. Why come to Canada? We have winter here almost 9 months of the year. The weather here changes every 20 minutes.  We have so much flat land and fields of hay barrels with plenty of cows in the pasture.

In a nut shell, Canada does not come close to all the holiday views we spend so much money to experience.  To Canadians, we don’t need all of that.  In its uniqueness, Canada has so many wonders and beautiful breathtaking sceneries, experiences.  From the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia to the marine life of beauty in Newfoundland. Canada is known as a common hotspot for vacationers seeking unbelievable sceneries to the ski buffs alike.

So, why Canada? Some Canadians enjoy the complaining aspect of rules and regulations within our society.  The laws that stand strong within Canada enforcing freedom, diversity and originality. Some Canadians take for granted how wonderful life is here.  For an economy, strong or not, foreigners say the same thing. “Canada is not unstable, politically in crisis or corrupted forcing its own people to live poorly.  For some, we consistently live in fear of our own lives”.

We are proud to be Canadians.  Many others are willing to do what ever it takes to experience what we already have and may sometimes take for granted.

The whole world IS in our hands...

Putting our minds to it, can make a bigger deal than you could ever think possible.  TFWA of Canada truly believes in “paying it forward”.

We have seen and heard of it happening repeatedly within our communities.

A story of truths; An employer came in to see us.  Devastated that he only had 28 staff members left and could not function properly without the usual 40 to maintain his business.  Within the 28 staff was 1 foreign worker.

This foreign worker was so dedicated to his work and getting the job done, he would spend his working days always singing about his family, missing them but was so happy that he was earning a living to be able to send money back to his family so they could survive.  He was so proud of his Canadian job that paid him $10.27 per hour.  His work permit was coming due so the employer decided to call an agency to renew things for another year if possible.  $2700.00 later, no work permit was ever granted or received.

The foreign worker, now in expired status, was panicking as was his employer who took it upon himself to apply for the labor market opinion following the government laws and regulations.  Using the TFWA as only a form of guidance through the known complicated system, and learning about terms like “implied status” in which he had no idea, he received a positive LMO.  The foreign worker was so excited to have applied for his new work permit but had not worked for 2 months prior to advise from the previous agency telling him and his employer, he was not allowed to work until the new work permit was issued but he was!

Knowing he was going back to work right away, he was excited, as was his employer but he began to cry in our office uncontrollably.  He went on to explain that over the months he did not work while he waited for this agency to gather the proper documents, his wife and three boys were living on milk stolen from a cow. His wife left the kids home alone in the middle of the night to cross a mile long rice field. Sometimes, the cow was there, sometimes not. He cried because the cow had not been there in over a week and his family was starving.

The TFWA wrote him a cheque for $200.00, drove him to western union to send it to his family so they could survive while waiting for his new work permit.  He went to work the next day so happy, working hard and worry free, thrilling himself and his boss.
